Maki was wide awake, lying in bed.

He closed his eyes as if trying to sleep.

It was hard but eventually Maki was able to get some sleep.

His mind was full of thoughts that he began to dream and his subconscious took over.

The dream was somehow very real to him, although some details were out of his control, and others were just pure fantasy.

The knights of old were charging down a hill, riding on large animals that he could not name, yet he had read about.

They charged another army. One not of men, but of skeletons and deceased creatures.

All these others were pure bones, but armed with swords and shields, just like some stories Maki had read for fun.

The battle raged under a dark red sun, as if it were almost nighfall. Except this sun was high up in the sky, not about to set behind the horizon.

For the moment it was a fantasy tale to watch and enjoy, and even in such a somber scenario the event was not a cause of fear or dread: it was only an unreal event with unreal characters.

Then something changed.

Something happened so suddenly, it was a cause of concern.

Maki was there among the knights, and he came face to face with an undead.

This figure was mostly made of bones, but his features still resembled a human being.

The figure came face to face with Maki and attacked with his sword.

Maki sat up suddenly from his bed. He was breathing a bit heavily, almost out of breath.

All he could think of was ¿What in Terra Aequitas was that?

He slowed his breathing and looked out the window.

It was still dark.

He looked over to his nightstand, which had a digital clock.

3 a.m.

It was still too early.

Maki lay back down and looked up to the ceiling. All he could consider was that he had to relax before the training began.

But he wasn't anxious for the next day.

His dream was more of a recalling of ancient stories he had read years ago.

All but that last part of the dream.

That part made no sense.

He recognized the figure of the undead that had attacked him.

The man was an adult, but the features were unmistakable.

Maki had seen another version of himself.

A month had passed from the time the two spacecrafts had made a quick scan over the planet of Inferno.

The spacestation that monitered, and reviewed the recordings from the orbiting satellite had not been aware of this event, but they were about to receive a very shocking surprise with the latest recording.

The technician proceeded to review a new streem of hours of recording. He sat down on his chair once again, placed his cup of coffee on the counter, and began to review the most recent recording over the planet of the deserted prisoners.

At first, everything seemed normal. The planet was barren, rugged, plain, and no sign of any life forms.

That changed rather quickly after 30 minutes of streeming in fast forward, and the technician almost spilled his coffee as he rushed to stop the feed, rewind a few minutes, and let the feed advance in normal speed.

He could not believe his eyes.

He had to pause the feed and look very carefully.

It was almost impossible, but the recording did not lie.

A large spacecraft appeared and hovered over the rocky terrain, as if to land, or at least send something down to the prisoners below.

The ship was at least 20 meters long, ressembling a sort of transport vehicle of ancient times, known as space shuttles, the first man-made machines used to explore deep space. In a way, the spaceship could very well be a modified space shuttle or freighter from long ago. It was bizzare to think this, but it was a very good possibility that an old space shuttle, or a few more in number, had been found and reassembled to become another kind of spacecraft. This would mean that the designer of the this new spacecraft was not in contact with civilization. That itself was frightening.

Either it remained set apart out of a lack of interest to see how man was making progress throughout time, or it decided to stay hidden on purpose, which would mean its intentions were not friendly.

The technician stared and watched carefully as certain flashes of light indicated that it was there on a specific mission: to pick-up the prisoners and take them away.

In horror, the middle-aged man reached for a portable comunication device to inform a superior. He was nervous and almost incoherent as he spoke to someone else. On the screen the transport spacecraft was taking off and flying up to cross through the atmosphere. It was obvious that it was too late to do anything else concerning the prison camp, but there should be a nearby spacecraft to send after the transport that now harbored 50 to 60 escape prisoners.

"Send me the recording to see what this spacecraft looks like."

The voice on the other side of the comunication device was angry yet a bit more calm than the technician, who began to punch buttons and move gadgets around to comply to the request.

He was suddenly silenced as a loud explosion caused the whole space station to collapse, and right then the only form of contact to the rest of civilization was engulfed in flames, attacked by outer forces which fired upon the floating machine in deep space.

Pieces began to separate, float apart, and the fire was extinguished but the damage was visible.

The spacestation in contact with the planet known as Inferno was destroyed.

The information was never relayed to another spacestation, or even a nearby planet with long-range comunication equipment.

Whatever this spacecraft with the prisoners wanted would be a mystery to any other lifeform in that galaxy. The passangers of the ancient looking spacecraft were now free, on there way to another planet, to meet the one who had rescued them from the infernal planet that had served as a prison.

Yet the spacecraft was not on its way to another planet in reality. It was headed towards a mechanical construction that floated in space. This giant piece of machinary was very strange in configuration. It could be considered a space station, but some prisoners had been on one of these before to have an idea how these mechanical constructions would operate.

In the end, this construction was their destination, and soon the passangers of the old space craft would be boarding it.

Red falcon squad leader kept a safe distance from the starship. The other fighters kept formation, a short distance behind to each side.

The fire blast from the laser cannon was unexpected.

It was a single blazing ball of white fire, speeding away from the starship, approaching it's target in a matter of seconds.

"Red 2 and 3, fall back!"

The squad leader began to turn as the other spacefighters pulled away immediately.

The cannon blast hit the spacefigther to the side and rear, causing a loud explosion as the squad leader lost its engine and part of the spacecraft.

Two spacefighters flew near a badly damaged squad leader, trying to determine what course of action to take next.

The coms went dead as the starship continued flying to Romulus.

"Oh how time flies, like birds in the skies."

Enigma was in the pilot seat, considering his service to the Phoenix Rising the last few months.

Mr. Alcazar decided to visit him, seeing how the other began to drift off into boredome.

"What flies without wings?" He suddenly asked.

"Time," answered the black hawk. "I do believe you need to stretch your legs..."

There was suddenly a proximity alert warning, a long range scanner, but a warning that something was to be visible real soon.

Enigma sat forward to read his scanner.

"It's a planet. We may have good fortune this time. This planet is larger than the ones we have seen. It may be that there is life on this one."

"It's time to sound the general alarm," mr. Alcazar. "The knight lords will be excited to hear this news."

Enigma smiled and offered another riddle, and his companion considered that he had come back to the land of the living.

"I am everywhere but cannot be seen, captured or held, only heard. What am I?"

The black hawk smiled and answered: "Your voice, and i think you have made yours heard loud and clear."

He sounded the alarm and waited for a reply.

It took a brief moment but each captain answered back. It was time to prepare to discover life on a new planet.
